Supporting the Baobei Foundation
WorldPath Clinic and Institute of Western Surgery are honored to be able to contribute our services to the terrific Baobei Foundation, making a positive difference for less fortunate babies in Shanghai. The Baobei Foundation is a charity whose purpose is to provide life saving surgeries to Chinese orphans born with gastro intestinal or neurological birth defects. This morning Dr. Edward Southern, IWS’s orthopedic pediatrician, met with 3 Baobei babies for free consultations. Most of the Baobei babies suffer from Spina Bifida condition, which occurs when the two sides of the embryo’s spine fail to join together, leaving an open area. The term spina bifida comes from Latin and literally means "split" or "open" spine. Most of the babies are in foster care with caring families waiting to be adopted full time.
We hope to continue offering free consultations to the Baobei babies once a month. To learn more about the foundation please visit http://www.baobeifoundation.org.
